I'm posting this in the hope of getting some answers to questions I've had for a long time now. A little over 2.5 months ago, I came down with a bit of a sore throat and had a 'lump' in my throat. Strep tests came back negative, so the Dr. ran blood tests. I had my igm come back positive, igg negative. I tested again 6 weeks after that test and again, came back igm+, igg-. My Dr. put me on valtrex, but I never had any 'normal' herpes symptoms before that.. in that, no bumps, no tingles, no sores, no lesions. So I stopped taking it and have been off it for over a month (still symptom free). However, I had a symptom that I didn't tell the Dr at the time because I thought it was just 'nerves'. It was that my 'guts' felt a little 'off' (like I had an intestinal bug, but nothing major) So I thought it would pass. However, I've had these dull pains off and on in the left-side of my abdomen. Nothing 'bad', just annoying. Now, in the past few days, the pains are more constant (though not any more painful) and tonight I've noticed the left side of my abdomen is swollen, pretty noticably. The swollen area is fairly large, taking up most of the area below my rib cage and above my hip. I've read that mono can cause spleen issues and swelling. I've not been officially test for 'mono'. However, with my other test return igm+, igg-, and having no typical herpes-1 or 2 symptoms.. Could I have mono instead? Thus the swelling of the spleen too? I'm 36 years old. I've not felt overly tired, but am somewhat. However, I do have a 6 month old kid I've been taking care of, so any fatigue I'd have chalked up to that. Only other symptoms is a painful area on the back, side, of my tongue (started when all the other stuff started happening) but have no sores or other marks. My ENT saw nothing out of the ordinary, other than reflux into my phyranx (sp) and I'm on Nexium for that now. It is Friday night currently. My Dr said I could go to the emergency room to get a CT of the swollen area to find out what IS swollen. But, I think I'll wait until Monday (with a watchful eye on my side) to visit my Dr.
Do these things fit a 'mono' in an adult?

This guy tried to get with me last night but I knew he had herpes (and he wasn't the one who told me) so i didn't really want to with him. But he kept bugging and stuff and when I went to bed he came and slept in that bed too and was spooning me and such. I'm not to sure what type of herpes he has. He didn't kiss me at all anywhere but he was spooning and cuddling me and he didn't really have any clothes on (others then his undies) so I'm worried that if he has genital herpes I might now be infected or even just infected in general now coz I had lots of contact with him :S We didn't do any form of sexual contact but there was still lots of touching and trying...
I'm just worried my friends said I shouldn't get them but I'm still worried :S

On my latest OB I have been using a tincture of St Johns Wort and Licorice root and I am not claiming its a miracle cure but I think it works as well anything else. I put a few drops on a qtip and apply. It burns some at first because of the alcohol base but after one day it really made a difference. And after a couple days I have no more iching, tingling, or pain. The best part is there are no side effects. I used some cream the doc prescribe for a while and this works just as well and way better than abreva. Thats my two cents.

Hi, I am 28 yrs male, I acquired cold sores, when i was travelling in flight few months back,then i found i had a small bump on the left of my upper lip. I went to the doctor i was told i had herpes, I was shocked to hear that, becuase i never had any sexual relationship before nor i had kissed any one, the doctor told me it is an STD. he gave me some kind of an acid which to be applied on the bump, it fell of in 2 days, once the bump fell i could see the bump coming again on the same day, the bump is there for almost 2 months, now i am really confused whether it is really herpes, becuase that i did not have any relationship before, the bump on my lips is dry and there is no presence of reddish or white head, it is just present in the colour of my lips only.

I also got an emloyment in abu dhabi, I am leaving soon, i heard that i need to undergo medical examination, if i had herpes will it disqualify my medical examination test. Please do let me know about it.

Also I would really like to know whether it is herpes and medication for the bump i am having. Currently i am applying Zorivax.

Four years ago two bumps appear on my vulva. At first i thought they were ingrown hairs but they took about 3 weeks to heal, were extremely painful and pus-filled, left an ugly, raised keloid scar on my vulva and were accompanied by leg pain.

I went to the doctor and got blood tests for HSV 1 and 2. The results were negative and the doctor told me it was probably just an ingrown hair. i've never felt completely sure of this diagnosis. the symptoms i had suggest herpes. of course, when i told my partner at the time that i thought that i might have herpes he denied having it or giving it to me and was happy to accept the results of the blood test.

i have never had an "outbreak" since that one time but i would like to be sure.

what should i tell any potential partners? how do i explain the scar? i have basically been without a relationship for the past four years because i am afraid. reading this site has really helped me to put things in perspective.

what i want to know is what is the likelihood that i have genital herpes?

Does anyone else find that when they take either Xanax or Valium on a regular basis that thy get more Herpes outbreaks? What do you do about this? My Doctor says it is not a side effect and body tells me it is.

My girlfriend recently went in to the doc for a bladder infection. After it didn't go away from antibiodics, she went back again. Her doc was concerned it might be Herpes (after pelvic exam) so she sent her home with some drugs for flare ups after taking some blood work. The blood worK results won't come back until Tues, but she hasn't started taking the drugs and feels much better on her own. Overall, the bladder infection symptoms lasted roughly 2 wks.

My wife and i have been together for six years, and just last week she suggestes to me to be checked for herpes, for she she says after she had performed fellacio on me she had gotten a cold sore. is it possible for me to have herpes and never to have had an outbreak of any kind?

Herpes: There is no Shame in Promiscuity

I’ve been thinking about how often my patients and others I speak with want to emphasize very strongly to me that they didn’t get their herpes from promiscuity. I even state that in my own personal herpes story called “ My first year with herpes; or how I was re-born a modern day leper”. I wrote it in my story not because I think there’s anything wrong with promiscuity, because I don’t, but because I wanted to warn people that being in a monogamous relationship does not necessarily protect you from getting sexually transmitted infections.

I am 99% sure that my "friend with benefits" gave me herpes. (I am waiting for my test to come back) I know I shouldn't have been sleeping with him in the first place but he was always the one I went to when not in a relationship, which is almost always. FYI we used condoms but I got them in an area it didn't cover. I am pretty sure he was having an outbreak because a week ealier he slept in a bed with me but wouldn't hook up with me which is a first, he must have had them then and they weren't healed a week later. I should have known better! I should have been suspicious of his wierd behavior a week earlier.

I recently contracted my first serious dose of herpes. Not knowinghow contagious it is I accidentally transferred it to inside my nostrils. Since this happened my nose has been trying to heal but as a result is getting uncomfortably blocked by bloody scabs. When I blow my nose to clear these am I stopping the herpes sores from healing? Is there any way to cure this or do I just have to alow it to healnaturally and breathe through my nose?

Hi there and I'm so glad I found this place.

I have had a few unprotected sex encounters (very stupid) about 5 or 6 partners in the last 4 years.

About a year and a half ago I had been with one of them and a few days after, I noticed some irritation in my genital area. On the inside of my two legs there is about a 7" in diameter red patch with a few spots on the outside of the patch which has grew slightly bigger overtime. The patch has really never went away properly. Maybe died down for a few days, few weeks (varies). Also this morning I checked my genital sac and found a few tiny scabs which i scratched and they came off and now I'm gettin a kinda burning sensation but more tingly than burning. Can this be genetal herpes?

I developed a rash on my right leg a little below the waist around 10 days back.after a couple of over the counter creams and blisters instead of the rash i visited the doctor today. the moment he saw it came a very blunt reply.. oh! that's herpes. and the cause was said to be the chicken pox virus. that's all the details he had. however on further research on the internet i found out more details on genital herpes than herpes zoster (the one that i supposedly have). It has now got me all worried. He never mentioned the word shingles as most of the articles refer to on the internet.
