I have had mono TWICE... the dr. told me the same thing after I had it the first time.. at least you don't have to worry getting it again.. WRONG!!! I indeed got it a second time a yr. later... when I questioned the dr. he said it was a different form.
Once Every 15 Years?
I had mono when I was 13. I had a terrible case- 2 months, jaundice, slept 18 out of 24 hours a day. Now I'm 28 and was just diagnosed with mono again. I had all the symptoms- swollen lymph nodes, swollen tonsils w/pus all over them, sore throat. MD did a strep test and was negative. Did a mono test for the heck of it. Test run was a Monospot test that tests for antibodies. I know that once you have EBV you will always carry it, but a Monospot test will be negative after the infection goes down. The thing is that I'm not tired at all. This site states you can't get it more than once because you would have immunity to it. If I have it a 2nd time is there a possiblity I have an immune deficiency of another kind? What other tests should I have my doctor run?
Only once in a lifetime
Hi,
You have nothing to worry about, you only get Mononucleosis once. Read more in our Mononucleosis FAQ.
Kind regards,
