Epstein Barr Contagious?
Checking understanding on whether Epstein Barr is contagious: My mother in law was just diagnosed with Epstein Barr. I have 2 small children and want to have a clear understanding on whether they would be at risk for contracting the disease or Mono. from her during visits.

Negative test for Mononucleosis
Hi,
It cetainly does sound like Mononucleosis to me. Could it be stress? I don't know what else it would be.
You could get another test. You could also just decide that it is Mononucleosis, as you won't be able to get any medication to treat it anyway, it will pass on its own.
Read more in our Mononucleosis FAQ.

Glandular Fever
Hi, i have swollen glands in my neck (random arrangement) and i am very tired all the time. And i have also lost a lot of weight i think through stress as im in my final year of uni. i have no other symptoms
I had a blood test and it came back negative for glandular fever
My friend last year had to have 6 blood tests while she was ill before glandular fever was diagnosed. So is it still possible i have glandular fever?
What other infections or viruses are similar to the virus in question?
Thanks, Lx
contagious
Ive got glandular fever at the moment and ive also got a boyfriend who im guessing since he doesnt have any symptoms yet most likely wont get it but i dont want to take any risks. So i was wondering how long after you get past the fever symptoms are you contagious for? or do you have to wait till all the symptoms such as fatigue are gone?
2. Mononucleosis Outbreak
Hi,
Sorry to hear that you have a second outbreak of Glandular fever, also known as Mononucleosis. That's quite rare. Did your doctor confirm his diagnosis with blood tests (first and second outbreak)?
Yes, there are other ways of catching Mononucelosis other than kissing. Any type of mucus membrane contact / intimate contact can do it. When I was a teenager I got Mononucleosis years before my first proper kiss ;)
There is unfortunately not much you can do to speed up recovery from Mononucleosis other than rest and relaxation which I can imagine is quite hard if you are working and also have to look after two kids. Get all the sleep you can, eat healthily and don't do anything physical (like housework and cycling) that isn't strictly necessary.
Good luck,

Glandula Fever
I've been diagnosed with glandula fever. My dr said its the second time that I'm having it. I cycled quite a lot but I don't have any strengh even to do my bed in the mornings. I'm a working mom with 2 kids. I'm really stressed out at the moment. How else kan ek get the virus than kissing.
Please, let me know as soon as possible. I can't believe that a dr can't do anything about it. It happened to me in June 2004 and now in October 2004. I have to practice for the Cape Argus and I need youre help!
Please??

"Old" Mononucleosis
Hi,
In principle you can get Mononucleosis (glandular fever) from this girl but it is not that likely. Mononuclosis is mostly contagious in the incubation period.
There is a chance that you already had Mononucleosis in childhood where the symptoms will be very mild and flu like which means that it's usually misdiagnosed.
Do talk to your doctor if you are worried.

question
hi,
I'm a little paranoid about the possibility of kissing this girl who had glandular fever a few years ago. She has gotten over it long ago but has since developed ME due to it. What do you advise? As far as I know I have not had glandular fever though I haven't tested myself for it, so I can't be sure. Thanks in advance for any advice.
