Genital Herpes Forum

I have HSV1 and HSV2, gave girlfriend HSV2, now what?

Ok so i have been tested and know that i have HSV 1 (oral ) & 2 (genital) . I have never had any symptoms or outbreaks ( that i have noticed ). I do know that my girlfriend got HSV 2 ( vaginal ) after being with me. As of yet she hasn't been infected with HSV 1.

I mainly want to know:

A: Can you have both types of herpes in the same location? example: if i go down on my girlfriend can she get HSV 1 (vaginal) and could i get HSV 2 (oral).
B: Should i be on medication even though i believe i am asymptomatic?
C: If i have unprotected sex/oral sex with my girlfriend, can we spread the HSV 2 elsewhere or make it worse?

more info: I believe i have had HSV 1 (oral) since childhood. I cant confirm that but my mom always had coldsores. I haven't told my parents to try and prevent them worrying too much. I am not positive how long i have been infected with HSV 2 either but giving my girlfriend HSV 2 ( vaginal ) confirmed the location i am infected with it.

I have gotten terrible information from different doctors about herpes and how it can be spread, which is very frustrating considering they are supposed to have the answers. So any additional info would be greatful! Hopefully i explained the situation well enough.

To Clarify

Thanks for the reply. I do understand they are interchangeable but my question is whether or not you can have both in the same location, example: hsv1 and 2 of the genitals.

from what ive been

from what ive been reading...you can have HSV 1 & HSV 2 in both oral or genital areas....they are interchangable...if you dont have symptoms then medicine is optional, but it reduces the risk of giving herpes to someone else. herpes is such a tough diease....i am newly diagnosed and i have been constantly looking on the internet for research about it. your lucky you have a girlfriend to go through it with you! :)
