Herpes Treatment: Trifluridine - Viroptic - Used for Eye Herpes

Trifluridine is an antiviral medicine in the form of eye drops
used to treat Eye Herpes Keratitis. It is only available on prescription
from your doctor. The common brand name is Viroptic made by King Pharmaceuticals

Possible Side Effects

There are usually no serious side effects of using Trifluridine but
you should inform your doctor if

  • you have any allergies
  • you are pregnant
  • you are breastfeeding
  • you take any other medications

It is fairly common to feel a burning or stinging in the eye right
after applying Trifluridine and some people may feel a short blurring
of their vision, dryness of the eye, itching, swelling, redness or
other irritation.

How To Use

Before you use Trifluridine you should wash your hands. Make sure
that the tip of the bottle does not touch your hands, eye or anything
else. This way you prevent cross contamination. Pull down your lower
eye lid and put one drop in the opening right under your eye. If you
think you did not get it properly in your eye, apply again.

You should follow your doctors advice on dosage and frequency.
The standard dosage is one drop every two hours when awake. When the eye
is healed, you should keep using Trifluridine for another week but once
every four hours when awake. If the treatment is for a child under the age
of 6, the dosage will be determined by your doctor.

King Pharmaceuticals have made this Triflurodine PDF available for download on their website.

herpes of the eye

My brother in law lives in Hopkinsville, KY. He contacted herpes of the deye over a month ago. he has been treated by an opthamologist there, but does not think he is improving. Can you recommend an opthamologist in Louisville,KY, Nashville,TN or reasonable proximity that he might be referred to.

9 yr old son has herpes of the eye and need help

my son contracted herpes of the eye 3 yrs ago when he was 6 yrs old. i am unsure how he got it and it took a year to get a correct diagnoses. when he was finally diagnosed, the treatments worked for a short time, then slowly, his condition deterioratsd. at the time, i was receiving public assisted medical insurance for him. we no longer have insurance for him. this is a huge problem for us. his eyesight is becoming much worse, fast, his sensitivity to light is strong, he wears sunglasses all the time. i am a single mother with a full time low paying job. i get no assistance from the government or child support. i feel that my son will have major permanent damage soon if i do not get sufficient treatment for him soon. i feel like i am failing him as his mother by not fixing his problem. i have no insurance and no extra money. after paying our bills, i am wiped out financially. i am at a loss of what to do for him. i have taken on a roommate, sold our car and gotten a part time job to get extra money for treatment and doctor fees. this is never enough. any comments or answers would be much appreciated.

herpes

What type of dr is best for this condition. My daughter is 9 and has been having reoccurrances since 6. I use antiviral drops and acyclovir as soon as her eye gets pink or enflammed but now opthalmaologist says scarring is still apparent and should seek an internal med dr but none in North Dakota that see children. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

troublesome condition

I know how this has been for me with insurance. Dr after Dr. I understand the frustration and time consumed by this reoccuring problem. It seems I have missed work dozens of times to travel 100 miles to see an opthal. as we have none locally.
