Valtrex is manufactured by
GlaxoSmithKline. It is an
antiviral treatment containing
Valacyclovir
used to treat Oral Herpes and Genital Herpes. It is a
a tablet and is available on prescription.

Valtrex will reduce the severity, duration and frequency of
Herpes outbreaks. It will not cure Herpes Simplex or. What it
does is keep the virus latent.

Different Treatment Proceedures with Valtrex

GlaxoSmithkline recommends 2 types of Valtrex treament for Genital
Herpes, suppresive therapy and outbreak therapy. For Oral Herpes
Glaxo SmithKline recommends a one day cure.

Outbreak Therapy

Outbreak therapy is also known as episodic therapy. It means
that you take Valtrex when or if you have an outbreak of Genital
Herpes. This way you will reduce the severity, duration and risk
of spreading Genital Herpes. It may also eliminate or reduce amounts
of future outbreaks.

Suppressive Therapy

Suppressive therapy for Genital Herpes means you take Valtrex every
day for a year to prevent future outbreaks of Genital Herpes. Suppressive
therapy is recommended for people with severe and frequent outbreaks
of Genital Herpes.

One Day Treatment for Cold Sores

Normally Oral Herpes (cold sores) is treated with a cream containing
an antiviral agent, Penciclovir or Acyclovir. GalxoSmithKline recommends
a one day treatment consisting of two tablets of Valtrex taken with 12
hours apart, taken just before the visible outbreak which is usually
preceeded by itching, tingling or irritation around the mouth area. This
treament if prescription only.

Side Effects

There are some possible side effects of valtrex, such as headaches,
nausea and vomiting. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking any
medications, you should inform your doctor before you get a prescription
for Valtrex.
