Shingles and internal pain
My mother thinks she has shingles. The doctor does not seem to know what she has. Along with some blisters - near her eyes, mostly - and all only on one side of her body - she also has pain along her waistline - only one that same side. Any suggestions as to whether it might be shingles?

Welcome to HerpesDoctor!
Wow, that doesnt sound too comfortable!
It could well be shingles but might also be a combination of shingles and some other ailment. Shingles very often only shows up on one side of the body so it certainly sounds as if your mother has shingles but you should really get a referal to another doctor if your current one is baffled by the symptoms.
Please post a follow up or add any other information that's relevant. And thankyou for being the first to ask a question in this new section of HerpesDoctor.com ;-)
PS: How are you treating the symptoms?
Regards
Jack

Hi,
Yes, you can apply anaesthetic cream on the lesions. Ask at your pharmacy.

Internal Shingles
I have a patient who has been tentatively diagnosed with internal shingles. Can't seem to find any medical information with this specific title. Apparently, this form is much more rare. Would the symptoms and treatment be the same as shingles with the exception that this patient is not exhibiting the skin rash?
Thanks.
Rare diagnosis
Hi Elizrn12,
I'm afraid I've never heard of internal shingles nor have I been able to find anything about it!
Please report back if you find anything about the condition.
Kind regards,

Reoccuring Shingles
Hi, i'm 22 yr old female. Yesterday i started my 8th shingles outbreak. I have been getting shingles since i was 19. Everytime i get shingles i get it within the same 4 inch area on my right thigh. This doesn't seem right, i've told my PCP and he seems to think that this isn't a big deal. He tells me it is shingles, but i thought that even if it were, chances that i would get it again were slim to none, let alone having 7more outbreaks. Also sometimes when i dont' have the shingles i get burning sensations on my skin. I've had them on my underarms mostly and my back and legs, the pain is constant and really doesn't bother me until the area is touched...is this related? Anyways it looks like classic shingles but nothing else adds up...could this be a misdiagnosis? if not should my doctor be more worried that i have had it so many times? it is soooo painful sometimes i can't even walk on my right leg, somebody help!
Internal Shingles
My grandmothers friend had internal shingles...she passed away from complications...i'm not sure of the whole story but i have heard of it...good luck!

Pain
my doctor sometimes prescribes me oxycodone...however this is a narcotic keep in mind but it is the only thing that has helped with the pain. also ask about valtrex, it will shorten the outbreak and help prevent any future pain that may be left behind
you poor thing
I think it is related. I am amazed on how 'common' this virus is and yet the info is all over the place. I just had a bout of something and my guess was a mild case of shingles. My doctor seems to disagree. She thinks it is of the herpetic type, but not the Zoster one. I don't know why she doesn't want to do more tests. I am terrified that this will be recurring. Especially because I knew someone with it and she had an awful time of it. What can I do but wait? My skin felt like it was sunburned and the nerve pain was intense. The blisters came and were visible for only 24 hours and then went away. The weird part was that the site where they came was not painful, but an area near my spine was. I had stabbing pain in my breast (same side of the body) and my underarms were tender. So either I had a bout of Shingles or herpes. If any one knows a herp doc please let me know. Thanks.
