Recovering from Mono

Our 9 year-old son was playing competitve soccer in October 2006 and he went from playing (2) 25 minute halves non-stop at a VERY high fitness level and seldom had to be rested or subbed out to all of a sudden playing or 1-2 mintues and then raising his hand to come out. When we came out he was exhausted in that short time and while on the field looked confused and disoriented. We took him to a pediatrician in October 2006 and they diagnosed him with Mono from a blood test. After a couple of weeks and another checkup he was cleared to play again, but after a year (10/2007) later he has not regained hardly any endurance and seems muscularally weak at times.

He never had a fever and or any of the other symptoms. In fact, if it hadn't been for the sudden lack of endurance and doctor confirmation I don't believe we would have ever known he had mono.

A year later at age 10, he still wants to play soccer but has no endurance and can hardly shoot a basketball up to a 10 foot goal.

Any ideas and/or suggestions are welcome!

My next step will likely be to get a second opinion and to see a nutritionist.

Thanks,
