full body pain--is it herpes?
I've had genital herpes for at least 3 years now, with frequent mild outbreaks and no meds. Recently, however, I developed more severe and prolonged outbreaks, and decided to give in and take acyclovir 800mg daily. After the severe outbreak ended, although the sores were gone, a tingling and shooting pain remained in my genital area, which slowly spread down my entire left leg. Throughout the last month I've developed pain--pins and needles, shooting nerve pain, aching, and stiffness--all the way down both legs, feet, in both arms and hands, hips, lower back, butt, and now even in my face. I've been off the acyclovir for a week, now, since it obviously wasn't solving the root of the herpes problem, only suppressing the superficial symptoms. Has herpes damaged all of these nerves, and now suddenly my body is reacting? I've also had a couple oral herpes outbreaks (though I wasn't sure that that's what it was), so maybe that was the origin of the facial pain. As for the arm pain, I guess I could have dormant finger herpes (herpes whitlow). Has anyone experienced this sort of widespread pain in relation to herpes, NOT as a prodrome, but as a lasting nerve condition unresponsive to meds? I would greatly appreciate any advice, as doctors don't seem to have a clue.

Hello
Hi and Merry Christmas. Heading out in a bit but, want to respond to you. I just posted a new posting myself. Yes, I too have experienced this and am finding that it is now become a daily thing for the past 2 months. I have had hsv II for 10 years now. I am wondering if I need to start taking Neurotin or something to relieve the nerve pain since I can't seem to stop the hsv symptoms themself. I am new to the city I am in and trying to set up a PCP, etc.
If you have a monthly prescription of the Acyclovir or Valtrex, this should help with the nerve pain you are describing. In the past I felt the symptoms you described without having an outbreak. Taking the antiviral when I felt this would help.
My heart goes out to you!
