Should You Avoid Kissing Someone with Herpes if You Already Have it?
Should you avoid kissing someone with active cold sores if you know already have oral herpes in your system? I get a cold sore very occassionally. My new girl-friend is having her first strong outbreak. Can I get it worse from her? Or does it make no difference, because I already have it?

Kissing
Hi,
To the best of my knowledge you should be just fine, however, personally I would avoid it. Asking your local doctor would be a good idea in this case but as I said, im reasonably sure that this will not increase the likelihood of an outbreak in yourself as you already carry the Herpes Simplex virus.

simplex 1 or oral herpes genitally
What the hell can I do? Everyone else seems to have 2 genitally. Anyone who thinks they don't have herpes rejects me. I am 51 and I am now very depressed.
Support Groups
Im not sure what you mean by this?
...moving on ;-)
Have you contacted your local support group? Where do you live? If you're not great at searching i'd be happy to have a go for you. There are loads of local groups and it sounds like you might benefit from talking to some others in similar situations, might be a good way to meet girls/boys too ;-)
So, where are you?
Best..

oral herpes
My baby has oral herpes. He has about a dozen blisters on his tongue and around the inside of his mouth. He has had a viral infection and I had a cold sore last week, would I have passed this on to him or is it more sinister?
Source of Cold Sores
Hi,
It's most likely that you passed on Oral Herpes to your child. If you and your child have both been diagnosed with the same Herpes virus by a doctor, he or she will be able to confirm this.
Many children get Oral Herpes from their relatives. It's very easy to pass on, all you need is a kiss, and it doesn't even have to be on the mouth as Oral Herpes can be seen anywhere above the neck.
Your child's outbreak seems quite bad. Have you discussed treatment options with your doctor? Although you can get a cream at the pharmacy without a prescription, you might want to get antiviral tablets to treat the blisters on the tongue. And you need treatment yourself as well!
As you are probably aware, there is no cure for Oral Herpes but antiviral treatment will reduce the severity and duration of outbreaks as well as reduce the risk of passing it on to others.

iv
can you get the virus twice?
I actually have two questions. One is that my boyfriend gave me herpes about 5 months ago and I just had my first recurrence about two weeks ago. I didn't realize it right away and then he told me that he had a cut on his penis and that he was experiencing discomfort the day after we had sex. He was an asymptomatic carrier for herpes, can he suddenly start getting blisters now after already having had it? Then, when I thought I was all done with my medications, and I had looked healed, I suddenly started getting the tell-tale itch yesterday, the first time after we had sex since my outbreak. Can he give the virus back to me again?
Herpes outbreaks
Hi,
Well, that's the unfortunate thing about Genital Herpes: You can't cure it.
Once you've got it, Genital Herpes stays in your body for life but stays latent most of the time. Most people experience more than one outbreak, some only a few in a lifetime, others several a year. Every time you get an outbreak, you need to take antiviral medication and be abstinent.

Re: getting it twice
I guess your doctor didnt tell you much about the virus. Like iv said once you have it, you have it for life. You have to be careful not to spread it to others. You may be contagious all the time. Please do not spread this to others. I get otubreaks after having sex with my boyfriend all the time, and he does not have herpes. So it has nothing to do with if he is have an outbreak either. You get an outbreak when your immune system is low, like when you have a cold, or when you are feeling tired(thats right not enough sleep) can cause an outbreak. You must take alot of vitamins. There is no cure. You can spread herpes into your mouth and eyes. Be careful, never perform oral sex or rub your eyes, keep your hands
Passing the Herpes virus
I read u can pass herpes through kissing. So what if u dont have a active cold soar u can still kiss and not pass it right? And I didnt know u can get it in the eyes to if u touch them. How does that work like can u pass it to the eyes anytime or just when u are having a outbreak. I mean ppl arent gonna go and wash there hands everytime they touch their mouth. Where or how can I find local support groups in my area or close by?
Ways of catching Herpes
Hi,
Kissing is the most common way of catching Oral Herpes also known as cold sores. It is mostly contagious when there is an outbreak but you are still not 100% safe even when there is no visible symptoms. Read more in our Oral Herpes section.
There are many opinions on how Eye Herpes spreads. Although Herpes vira usually don't transfer without initimate contact via mucus membranes, it seems that Eye Herpes starts if you share make up. What happens is that a person has Oral Herpes and the infection spreads to the eye via cross contamination. Using other people's make up transfers bacteria that triggers the first outbreak.
