Herpes Doctor

I was a victim of a rape and now I have genital herpes for the last 7 years. I've only had only one outbreak so far. The sore was located on mu butt cheek and it was very, very small. It went away within a week and it never came back. I just started dating for the first time and I like this guy a lot but I don't know how to tell him about my condition. We have not had sex yet but we kissed and I am worried. Can I still pass the herpes to him??? How can I tell him? I don't want to talk about the past because he is a police officer but I don't want him to think that I've had an unprotected sex with anyone because I didn't and never will. Please help......
