Type 1 herpes
I have just been diagonosed with type 1 herpes which i know I have had for at least a year in the time i have had to genital outbreaks. I don't understand this as i have never had a coldsore or anything just very bad genitial outbreaks. The docotor rang and told me this morning and i asked if i can come in to get medication and he said they only prescribe medication if i am having an outbreak which i would have to go in to get checked out. To my knowledge this would be too late for the medication to work to aviod a breakout. Does any one know what the protocal on how the prescription process works. the doctor doesnt seem like he knows much. What can you get over the counter and when is it you get your prescription? do you need to get checked everytime you need a prescription seems like a waste of time if you know you have it. and with type 1 herpes is it possible to never had any coldsores ect and just get out breaks on the genitals? i thought that was more type 2

I myself just got diagnosed
I myself just got diagnosed with type 1 on my genitals about 3 weeks ago. It is very possible to get it this way and not have a coldsore. I got it from my boyfriend who would get occasional coldsores on his mouth, and when he gave me oral, I got it on my genitals. That is usually how you get type 1 down there. If you are having regular outbreaks though, it seems to me that your doctor should maybe put you on suppressive meds to keep them from happening before they get bad like that. It is unusual from what I read on this other doctor's website, to have a lot of outbreaks when you have genital type 1. Genital type 2 is the one that he said gives you the more frequent outbreaks. Maybe you should get a second opinion because maybe your doctor isnt really sure. The doctor told me that there are some doctors that arent very knowledgable about HSV. I guess there is more research that needs to be done too. But I had the one outbreak, and my doctor gave me something before the test even came back positive for the HSV. But you shouldnt have to get checked everytime. If the doctor has already diagnosed it, I dont get why he needs to keep checking. You're right, that seems like a waste of time to me. I would maybe try a different doctor.
