Herpes Simplex and Chickenpox
At 25 I recently caught chickenpox off a person who was originally thought to have shingles (HZV). It has now come to light that this person was actually suffering from disseminated herpes simplex (not sure which strand).
Is it possible to catch chickenpox from herpes simplex?

Various Types of Herpes
Hi,
The Herpes viruses are very similar but they do not cause each other, so to speak. So to answer your question: No, it is not possible to catch chickenpox from Herpes Simplex, not matter what type. You should have a look at our Herpes Overview for a quick explanation of the various types of Herpes.
However, if a person has had chickenpox in childhood, there is a chance that this person might develop shingles in later life as shingles is a reactivation of the virus Varicella Herpes Zoster that causes chickenpox. You can find more information about chickenpox and shingles in our chickenpox and shingles sections.
