virus survival outside body

It is my understanding that the herpes virus does not last long outside of the body. I know that it likes warm and moist environments. A make-up artist recently used a lip gloss on me using the same applicator from the bottle that she has probably used on multiple people (although not at the same time). Usually, a different applicator is used. I wonder, would the virus survive in the lipgloss? Would any virus survive?

Herpes Virus Survival off The Human Body

Hi,

There is some disagreement regarding Herpes virus surviving off the human body. It also depends on what type of Herpes virus we are talking about. I assume you mean Herpes Simplex 1, also known as cold sores. Herpes Simplex 1 does not survive off the human body, if you ask me. But you should still avoid sharing make up as there might be bacteria or other viruses on it. The thing is, you can carry latent Herpes Simplex for quite a while and all of a sudden it gets triggered and you get an outbreak, and the trigger could be bacteria or other viruses. Most people carry some sort of Herpes virus and once you have a Herpes virus, it's for life, it stays in your system, although it won't be active most of the time.

I am not a doctor, though, my knowledge is based on researching authoritative sources online. I would recommend that you ask your doctor and read some of the articles here on Herpes Doctor and The Australian Herpes Management Forum for more information.
