Does Herpes Survive Outside the Human Body?

Many people are worried about catching Herpes, especially Herpes Simplex 1 and 2, also known as cold sores and Genital Herpes.

Herpes is very common and very easy to catch. But it does require close physical contact. Herpes Simplex 1 and 2 does not survive outside the human body. This means that you can not catch Herpes Simplex from sharing drinks, food, make up, going to a public toilet or using a pay phone. You need to for example kiss some one with Herpes (including dry kisses as may be exchanged between relatives), have sex or other forms of close physical contact.

Some people do report getting a cold sore after sharing make up or similar. What has really happened in these cases is that latent Herpes has been triggered to break out. It is very common to carry a Herpes virus for quite a while without knowing, even years. If you share make up, other bacteria or virus may be transferred and act as a trigger for the first Herpes outbreak. But the Herpes virus was already there. Most people carry some sort of Herpes virus and many don't even now it.

This means that although Herpes does not survive off the human body, it is still a good idea to keep good hygiene - you might transfer bacteria or other viruses that will trigger an outbreak of a latent Herpes virus in you body.

drank someones beer

today at a party this boy poured his beer into a glass and gave it to me, but before that he drank from the bottle that he was pouring from. i drank the beer in the glass that he poured it into. His lips did not touch the glass i drank from but the beer was from the bottle his lips were on.He was later telling me that he picks up hookers and now i'm nervous that i might have contracted herpes since its the only std that can be transmitted through saliva that i know of and since this person picks up prostitutes i got nervous. I was wondering if the beer would have enough alchohol to kill the virus or most stds?

bath water, washing clothes, tears, drinking fropm same glass e

Hello , Ive had HSV 2 ( genital) for 23 years, from my experiences,
Re- bath water, no you can- not catch it ,if you jump into a bath after some one else, that has H,especially if the person does not have an OB, if they do have an OB, the chance of the H virus surviving in water is very slim as it needs a human host to survive,if you sheer a bath and the other has an OB, still slim , unless of course you rub, or touch the OB site on the other person, accidentally or not, , then thats a different story, if this happens, generally the virus can-not penetrate the skin e.g leg, hand, back , foot etc. If the OB site is rubbed, touched by mucous membrane skin e.g. inside of the mouth, lips, vagina, or a cut or burn ( including eczema), simply, dont shear a bath with some one who has an OB.
re-washing clothes, no , the virus can-not survive out side the human body for longer than seconds
Re- towels, i went to another town ( years ago) and stayed at my aunties place, she went to her doctor first to ask about towels etc, he said no , the virus can-not survive out side the body, in saying that if the other person has an OB, dont shear towels. but when you go to wash the towels later ( say longer that 1 minute after the person has used it, then you can not catch it,)the person would also have had to rub or dry the OB site with that part of the towel you happen to touch later, then the chance is a no
Re- sweat, tears ( yes, after 23 years i can relate to the tears thing) no, H is not in tears, sweat, sperm, vaginal fluids, urine, blood ,saliva etc, the virus is only in the fluid that is inside the blisters.
Re- drinking from same glass as a man whom visits hookers, if this man didn't have any colds sores that you could see, then , no , cold sores are only contagious when the cold sore is active, same as for herpes,
Re- sex, if any partner has an OB, including the tingly ,sometimes painful nerve neuralgia, prodrome feeling that pre-seeds an OB to the blisters to the total healing of the skin, then that person should not have sex during this time, or at least not use that part of her/ his body were the Ob site is, especially during the first tingly feeling, time. e.g if some- one has an active genital OB, this not mean they have the H virus on their hands, mouth etc.
hope this helps :-)

pain down arms and legs

Wondering if anyone has experienced a deep ache down their arms and legs with an OB. I am experiencing debilitating pain that refuses to let up. My doctor said flu like pain throughout the body is very typical. Has anyone experienced this? If so, how do I get relief? Ouch.
