Genital Herpes: How Common is it?
1 in 5 adults have the virus
Herpes Simplex 2 (HSV2) that causes
Genital Herpes and most don't even know it.
HSV2 is usually transmitted via sexual
activity. What many people don't realize is that the virus
is not only transmittable via traditional intercourse.
If you have Genital Herpes and you receive oral sex you
risk giving your partner Oral Herpes,
and if you have Oral
Herpes and you give oral sex you risk giving your
partner Genital Herpes.
As you can see, the virus is
very adaptable. The symptoms may occur
anywhere between the knees and waist not only on
the genitals and it is the affected area that is the source
of transmission from one person to another.
Symptoms - Treatment & Prevention of Genital Herpes
The symptoms of Genital Herpes are a rash that turns
into blisters which then turn into a dry scab. As mentioned
above, this may appear anywhere between the knees and waist
not only on the genitals. The symptoms may be very mild
and are often mis-diagnosed or never diagnosed which obviously
helps spread the virus. The outbreak may occur only once in a
lifetime or up to several times a month.
Treatment and Precaution
HSV2 and Genital Herpes cannot be cured but Genital
Herpes can and should be treated with an antiviral agent: Acyclovir,
Famciclovir or Valacyclovir, in a tablet available on prescription
from your doctor.
If you suspect that you have Genital Herpes you
should see a doctor for treatment and advice. The antiviral agent
will help reduce the severity, frequency and duration of outbreaks
as well as help reduce the risk of spreading the virus. For some
people it may even eliminate further outbreaks altogether.
If you have Genital Herpes, you must take precautions to avoid
passing it to others. When you have an outbreak you should
- Avoid sexual activity
- Avoid touching the infected area
- Wash your hands regularly
- Do not share towels, wash cloths or clothing
- Take antiviral treatment
Unfortunately HSV2 is not only contagious when you
have an outbreak. It is also contagious just before the outbreak
and in the viral shedding period when no symptoms are present. The
viral shedding period also takes place if you haven't had an
outbreak (yet) but have caught the virus.
Luckily Genital Herpes is a fairly harmless condition. There
are usually no complications involved and all it causes is the
visible symptoms. Start by SEEING YOUR DOCTOR.

Breast-Feeding Baby?
if u have herpes simplex 1 & 2 can u pass it on to ur baby?
Signs to watch for.
I have recently become sexually active with a man I have been seeing. Before we became intimate we discussed that neither of us had a STD. We have also had unprotected sex several times. When I was at his house one day I saw a prescription bottle for Valtrex. I haven't asked him about it and I am very concerned. I haven't asked him about it becasue I thought if he lied to me the first time maybe he would again.I would also like to know what type of "blister" or "pimple" it is that you should look for. I am not sure what they look like. By the way, I wasn't prying when I saw the medication bottle. It was sitting on a shelf right out in the open!! :) Also, is it possible to contract Genital Herpes orally? I became very sick with a sore throat and fever. Now I am concerned that it wasn't just the cold I thought it was. Please forgive me for including so many questions, I am just extremely nervous and not sure where to turn.
yes
yes it is possible to catch it orally. I would confront him about it myself, it is your body, you have to take care of it. lots of people lie about their STD status. these days it is not enough to just ask, you have a right to see the STD results yourself. I saw my exes results , but that also wasn't enough, he ran out and cheated on me, I ressommend waiting till marriage, society laughs at this, but I would have way rather given my husband my virginity then herpes. My ex was my first and my husband my second, so it can happen to anyone. I also waited till I was 19. I thought I did everything right, but sometimes thats not enough. I'll tell you one thing though, if your bf end up having genital herpes and you catch it, you will wish you would have protected yourself.
maybe if its on your breast
hello, you can do nothing better for your baby then breast feeding it. If you have herpes on your nipple, then it is possible to pass it, otherwise it isn't. I am still breastfeeding my year old, I have genital herpes and I wouldn't consider anything else. Dr. Jack Newman has a great book and breast feeding and talks about herpes and breast feeding in it, I highly reccomend it.
did you catch 1 & 2 off him
