Genital Herpes: What are the Symptoms?
The symptoms of Genital Herpes are a rash that turns into
blisters that turn into a dry scab. As the name says, the symptoms appear around the
genital area but may also appear anywhere between the knees and waist.
You may also have headaches, tiredness and fever.
Genital Herpes is caused by the virus
Herpes Simplex 2 (HSV2) and sometimes also
by Herpes Simplex 1 (HSV1) which normally results in Oral
Herpes - cold sores.
It is relatively easy to catch Genital Herpes. It is spread via sexual
activity and is not only, but mostly contagious when there is an outbreak.
The outbreak may be preceded by a tingling or irritation in the affected
area.
Once you've caught the Herpes Simplex virus it doesn't leave your body,
but most of the time there is no visible outbreak, in fact some people never
experience an outbreak.
Frequency of Outbreaks
Most people have recurring outbreaks and the
intervals vary from person to person, there may be months or years between
each outbreak. You will learn to recognize the triggers to your outbreaks.
Triggers are usually associated with low immune defense system. For
example, triggers might include:
- Tiredness
- Stress
- Illness
A healthy lifestyle has a lot to say in preventing outbreaks
of Genital Herpes. Get enough sleep, eat healthily, take regular exercise and try
to avoid stressful situations.
If you have Herpes you should avoid behavior associated with spreading
the virus although this can never be eliminated. Do not engage in sexual
activity when you have an outbreak or if you feel one coming on as this
is the most contagious period. Unfortunately Herpes is also contagious
outside of the outbreak period and using condoms does not eliminate the
risk of spreading the virus although it does lower it considerably.
Oral sex is also a risk factor. Do not touch the affected area when you
have an outbreak and wash you hands regularly.
Is there a Cure for Genital Herpes?
Genital Herpes is not curable but you can treat the symptoms with good
results using antiviral medications such as:
- Acyclovir
- Famciclovir
- Valacyclovir
All three will reduce pain, discomfort and length of outbreak. Famciclovir as well as Valacyclovir may also reduce the number of outbreaks and in some
cases even eliminate them if used correctly. All three are available as
prescription drugs. You should see a doctor if you suspect that you have
Genital Herpes to get diagnosed as well as receive advice and a prescription for
a suitable treatment.

Should I get tested?
I've been with one person that has only been with two people. We've both always used protection. I have one pimple that doesn't hurt, burn, itch, or anything like that...but since it's on my genital area i'm worried about it being genital herpes. I've been told it could be from wearing tight jeans everyday and from sweating. Should I get tested?
I'm scared.
I have been with this guy for 2 year. Recently, I noticed a (1) bump/dry scab on the shaft of his penis. Should I be worried? Are their any other suggestions on symptoms. He has always been lazy. Therefore, tiredness is out.

Symptoms of genital herpes???
Hello. Im a little worried. 4 days ago I had sex with a woman. For the past couple of days Ive noticed this strange tingling cold feeling on the foreskin (right below the head) of my penis. Could this be the first symptoms to genital herpes? On accident I used some Acne cream with Benzoyl Perxoide to ejaculate with. Would this have anything to with this cold tingling sensation I have or is it genital herpes? Someone please answer me, I would really appreciate it.
