Lengthy Mononucleosis

I was sick for a month and a half before my doctor finally figured out I had mono. I kept going to work and cleaning the house thinking it was just the sinus infection I originally got treated for. I was tired too but I figured that was due to working extra hours at my job. I had also been on birth control pills for 6 years. my doctor told me that the pills
were not good to be taking with mono so I stopped taking them. Do they prolong mono?

It has now been almost 5 months since I had started not feeling well and 3 months since I was diagnosed with mono. How much longer can this last? I feel okay one day and the next I feel bad again.

I had taken about 2 months off from work due to the fact my spleen was enlarged and I'm back at work again. Im still tired a lot and get the occasional headaches and joint pain. I also still have the red rash and some sensitivity to light.
I have been drinking lots of fluids and eating healthy but how long can mono last? I heard it could last as long as between 6 months to a year!

How long does Monunucleosis last?

Hi,

Unfortunately Mononucleosis can last very long, usually longer the older you are. Children get over it very easily, like a common flu, teenagers take months and adults can ber affected for more than six months.

You are on the right track with eating healthy and drinking lots of fluids, though, that will help. I've never heard that the pill should make Mononucleosis worse.

Kind regards,

iv
