Herpes Zoster: Is There a Cure?

Herpes Zoster is not curable. However most people will only
experience one or two outbreaks in their lifetime.

Varicella Herpes Zoster,
also known as HHV3 causes two types of outbreak: chickenpox and shingles. This article looks at treatment options for both.

Herpes Zoster is very easily caught as it spreads via the humidity in
the air. Children usually catch the Herpes Zoster virus and develop
chickenpox as a result, the chickenpox symptoms are a bad rash that can be so painful
that it becomes unbearable to wear clothing. Chickenpox is not usually
treated as it passes on its own but there is a vaccine against chickenpox
(but not the Herpes Zoster virus) which is usually given to 9 month old
babies and repeated when the child is 12 that can reduce the risk of outbreak.

Shingles & Herpes Zoster Treatment

The Herpes Zoster virus stays in the body and rarely reactivates
with chickenpox as the result. However, 1 in 5 who have caught the Varicella
Herpes Zoster Virus and had chickenpox in childhood develop shingles in
later life. Shingles has symptoms similar to chickenpox and is mostly
seen in older people perhaps because the immune defense system
deteriorates slowly with age. Shingles is usually treated with:

These antiviral treatments are also used to treat outbreaks of
Genital Herpes caused by the
Herpes Simplex virus.

Luckily shingles is by no means a life threatening disease and even
though it can't be cured, it can be treated with good results. There
are rarely any complications involved with shingles other than the
pain and discomfort that the rash may cause.
