Treatment for mononucleosis?
Two of my children have been diagnosed with mononucleosis (ages 18 and 20), and seem to be fairly hard hit by it. Aside from the fatigue (having a shower seems to be almost too much exertion), they both require prescription pain medication just to be able to eat and drink, as their throats are so sore. Our doctor says that he knows of no treatment for mono - I mentioned 2 specific cases I know of which involved people who played sports at a high level where the athlete took some kind of drug and was basically on total bedrest for about 2 weeks, after which they took another week to build back some strength and then were able to play their full body contact sport. I am suspecting that they must have been given an antiviral drug which would stop the progress of the virus, with the 2 weeks of total rest for their bodies to recover from the effects the virus had already caused. My doc said that he had never heard of antiviral drugs being used to treat mono - could you possibly confirm or deny the possibility?

No cure for Mononucleosis
Hi,
As far as I'm aware, there is no cure or treatment for Mononucleosis.
I can certainly sympathize with you, it sounds like your children are having bad cases of Mononucleosis. Why don't you try and contact the athletes that you heard of and ask? We would certainly be very interested here at HerpesDoctor.com to hear of any treatment that may relieve symptoms of Mononucleosis.
Good rest and plenty of fluids is all I know of.
Read up on Mononucleosis in our Mononucleosis FAQ.

Mono treatment
My son got Mono last year at the age of 17. I did research on the internet for natural herbs etc... since the regular doctors said nothing could be done. After taking Olive leaf, extra vitamin C, a multi-vitamin, and some liver function herbs, he did not miss one day of school. However, later he developed an intolerance to sugar. He has been tested extensively for blood sugar problems and all have been normal. He gets nausea when he has sugar. The gastroenterologist suggested that some viruses can cause problems like this. Anyone ever hear of this?
Hello
Wow! That is truly amazing!!
mononucleosis and herpes zoster (shingles)
My 17 yr. old son has been diagnosed with mono based on symptoms. He was playing soccer and in the marching band, and is now on homebound instruction for 2 weeks. His monospot test was negative but was given during the first week of symptoms. He is still quite weak. This is day 14 since he has not been able to function normally. When should he start to feel better? Also this past weekend I had a severe cold, and on Monday night I started to break out on my back. On Tues I went to the Dr. and was diagnosed with Shingles. I was not particularly stressed or run down, and I am in good physical shape. Could there be any correlation between the two of us since we both have illnesses in the alpha herpes grouping?

A new product to help with infection...
Hey guys,
I caught mono like most people when I was a kid. Didn't suffer for long (luckily) but every winter I have another run in strep throat and swollen glands. I think it's just a mild form of mono, or EBV coming back to get me! LOL
And so I wanted to share this website...

I've used this stuff for a few weeks and haven't noticed my glands getting any bigger, or any symptoms like they would normally appear. So I guess it's working. Hope this helps someone else too!
Well met, good luck and get better!
