Do I have Herpes or something else
My doctor first diagnois's in 2000 with Shingles then I was treated for it . Didn't have an outbreak for another year. since then at least a couple times a year I have one. She says I have herpes and it is not Shingles. I breakout on my lower buttox with an itch (which feels like a bite) then it is a bit itchy and a little red. I was put on Famvir then it didn't seem to work as well. I then had an outbreak three times in three months. I am now on Valtrex which I have been on for ten days. It seems to be working but the spot is not completely gone. My doctor also says I could use Hydocortisone cream for the itch. When it starts to heal it gets a little pink then fades to a little darker. I am not convinced it is Herpes, please help.

Hi, has a doctor biopsied the leasion? That is the best way to tell if a sore is herpes or just a spot your undies tend to annoy (where the seams come together on your underwear if they rub on the same spot all day can create an irritated spot).
I would use the hydrocortizon cream and get the spot biopsied next time it shows up.

Thankyou for your reply to my question. No, the Dr hasn't biopsied it and that is what I will ask them to do when it shows up again.
