That depends on the type of Herpes you have but with few exceptions
there are no serious implications or side effects if you do not treat
Herpes.

Herpes viruses have probably been around as long as mankind
if not longer. If Herpes was life threatening, mankind wouldn't be

you've caught a Herpes virus, it stays in your body for life although
it remains latent for most of the time.

Oral Herpes - Cold Sores

Herpes Simplex 1 which causes Oral Herpes -

in a cream, Penciclovir or Acyclovir. The most common brands containing these agents are Zovirax and Vectavir available without a prescription
from pharmacies.

The cream will help reduce frequency, duration and
severity of outbreaks as well as reduce the risk of spreading the
virus. If you don't treat Oral Herpes, you are more likely to
spread the virus and have more and longer lasting outbreaks of a more
severe nature. You should see a doctor for diagnosis, advice
and treatment of Oral Herpes.

Genital Herpes

Herpes Simplex 2, which cause Genital Herpes, can also be treated
with good results. The treatment is also an antiviral agent,
Valacyclovir, Famciclovir or Acyclovir in tablet form.

The treatment
is available on prescription from your doctor and will help
reduce severity, frequency and duration of outbreaks as well as
reduce the risk of spreading the virus. For some people the
treatment may even eliminate further outbreaks, ie. keep the
virus permanently latent. If you don't treat Genital Herpes,
you are more likely to spread the virus and have more and longer
lasting outbreaks of a more severe nature.

Herpes Zoster - Chickenpox & Shingles

The virus Varicella Herpes Zoster causes chickenpox in children
and shingles in seniors. Chickenpox will pass on its own without
treatment but a chickenpox vaccine is recommended for children in
most countries and although this does not prevent a chickenpox outbreak
100%, it does reduce the risk of an outbreak considerably.

Varicella Herpes Zoster is latent after chickenpox and may cause
shingles in 1 in 5 adults in later life. Shingles is usually treated
as the immune defense system in the seniors isn't generally strong
enough to fight it alone. The treatment is an antiviral agent,
Valacyclovir, Famciclovir or Acyclovir, available in a tablet with
a prescription from your doctor. Untreated, shingles may cause persistent
pain, often referred to as post-herpetic neuralgia in the affected
area of the body after the rash has healed.
