Hi phil,

I certainly don't hope you read here that you can get Genital Herpes from masturbating if you have Oral Herpes, because that's not true! Where did you hear that?

I think if that was the case, then everybody who had a cold sore would also have Genital Herpes ;)

The only way to get Genital Herpes from your own cold sore would be if you were able to give yourself a blow job, and as I'm sure you know from personal experience, that's not physically possible.

what about if someone with a cold sore clean their face with a towel.

then someone else dried their hands with that same towel..and then masturbated..

could they get herpes on their genitals?

Hello again, Phil,

As I have told you before, you need intimate physical contact to catch Oral or Genital Herpes. You CAN'T get it from touching something that isn't human, i.e. a towel, a toilet seat, a book, whatever. So you have nothing to worry about.

I'm sorry for the repeatitive questions..

the reason I asked in the first place..

is I know herpes 1 can survive on a warm towel..

so I assume if you touch it.. then touch your gentials

you could then get herpes on your genitals?

also..you said..herpes can only be contracted through actual touching of a person..but cant you get oral herpes from sharing a glass?

So how long can the herpes virus live out of the body for?
I mean......Ive noticed on a number of sites it says ,dont share a wash towel with someone whos having an outbreak, and yeah there needs to be alot of factors, like humidity, dampness ?

Also wash your hands regularly and dont touch the effected area, yeah general hygiene ...but whats the deal? Exactly how hard is it to transfer like this?

Unfortunately there is disagreement as to whether HSV1 and 2 can survive off human skin. In principle, it can't survive off human skin, so warm towels or drinking glasses can not carry HSV1 or 2. But... you doctor will still tell you to keep good hygiene and be careful with sharing towels, cutlery, make up etc. I'm not sure why, but I guess it's because bacteria and other viruses (a common cold, the flu etc) can survive off human skin.

So to be on the safe side, be careful. But don't panic and stop touching other people or objects in general. It is VERY unlikely that you get a cold sore or Genital Herpes without intimate physical contact with a person who already has either.

just say a towel that was infected with hsv1 touched my hands..then I touched my penis..could I have transfered the virus to my genitals?

You can read, right?

As I have stated several times before, HSV1 or HSV2 does NOT survive on towels, books, glasses, anything that isn't human. You can ONLY get it via intimate physical contact with another human being who already has it, NOT from a towel or any other object for that matter.

so if you shared underwear w/somebody who had an outbreak, or if they rubbed their coldsore or genital herpes on the vaginal part of the underwear and then you wore the underwear 30sec after...could you get genital herpes?

also...

my little sister got a coldsore from me after drinking after me, since it can be trasferred by water, say i have a coldsore and i take a shower, and the water runs down from my lip to my genital, is there any risk there?
