HSV2 and My Knee
I recently had a STD workup. I expected to come back positive for HSV1. You see many years ago I got an outbreak on my Knee. I was told by 2 different doctors it was nothing more than a Cold Sore on my Knee and that I did not have Genital Herpes. To this day I have never had an outbreak in the genital regions. However I have had many outbreaks on my knee and always take care of it and keep it covered, wash my hands etc. I take Valtrex for it prescribed my Doctor.
Well I get the STD work up they find that I am negative for HSV1 and only positive for HSV2! So I guess my Cold Sores I got when I was a Kid were HSV2. Of course I plan on getting retested in 4-6 weeks. But I wanted to know if anyone has heard of this? I feel like I have no idea how any of this could have happened. I never transmitted the virus to my ex-fiancée or my long time boyfriends, the few I didn't use condoms with. I know this must be rare. But I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the whole thing. Any help would be great thanks!

HSV1 or 2
Hi,
It is rare to get a cold sore on your knee, but it does happen.
HSV1 usually causes Oral Herpes (cold sore) and HSV2 usually causes Genital Herpes. But, HSV1 can also cause Genital Herpes just like HSV2 can casue Oral Herpes. That doesn't mean that you have Genital Herpes on your knee, though. It just means that it was caused by HSV2.
Just keep your knee away from your partner when there is an outbreak and you should be fine.

HSV2 on my butt cheek
I was diagnosed with HSV2 on my butt cheek. I only get outbreaks there and have never had any breakout anywhere else on my body, nor have I ever given it to anyone else (ex-husband, two long term boyfriends). My question is: When I do not have an outbreak, what are the chances of passing this on? Please answer and perhaps give me a resource to find additional information about herpes outbreaks not in the genitals. I have met a wonderful man who says this is not a dealbreaker, but is gathering more info and educating himself. Whatever I can find to put his mind at ease, will definitely help move our relationship forward. Thanks in advance!!

Herpes on my knee
yea i kept getting sores on my knee too and they are really ugly and got a lil swolen and painful when i was 7 mos pregnant they did a culture and said it was HSV 2 but that I didnt have genital herpes... that makes no sense.... its so embarassing to have to go get prescriptions for valtrex... and i feel so alone in all this i want to know how this is caused?
Genital herpes is spread easily
I think you need to get more information about it. On the blog page of http://www.stdpal.com, I realized that Genital herpes is spread easily. The virus from contact with an infected person can enter your body through a break in your skin or through the skin of your mouth, penis or vagina, urinary tract opening, cervix or anus. Herpes is most easily spread when blisters or sores can be seen on the infected person. But it can be spread at any time, even when there aren't any symptoms.
