Valtrax Dosage?

hi. ive had herpes for about a year now..have basically learned to live with it. Anyways my question is about valrex. I just got a prescription for it and i was wondering..am i supposed to take it everyday or only when i have symptoms of an outbreak?? and it says that it reduces the transmission..well if im not takin it daily..does it still reduce the transmission level then? Anyways..any help would be appreciated. thanks

We do have a little information on Valtrex but you need to call your doctor if you're unsure of the instructions for any medication.

My guess is that you're to take it daily, but im no doctor, and you really need to get the right advice here ok?

Valtrex 500 mg is taken twice a day for 3 days if you take it to treat an outbreak. If you take it to suppress outbreaks, you take 1 pill a day, everyday. It doesn't reduce transmisson unless taken suppressively (daily), but it is only a 48% reduction in risk of transmission.
