Stye or Oral Herpes?
I went out of town and came back with what I thought was a stye but now that I've been reading about this eye herpes thing I think it may have been that! It was very painful and I even had someone to comment saying that it looked infected and their stye usually didn't look like mine. Well I went to the doctor on a military installation and they gave me antibiotic drops and that was it...the nurse actually told me that he usually would just burst his and it would go away sooner. So I did and there was this never ending white puss and like two weeks later my fiance and I had sex and I had very painful swelling and waht seemed like cuts down below...went to the doctor again and he said it was a bacterial infection but didn't do a culture on it and now I'm thinking I may have herpes and because their were no sores down below he just named something...I don't know but now I think my baby may have contracted it from me and I am just about to loose my mind and I'm scared of what will happen if he does...he's ONLY 20 months old and I couldn't live if I passed this thing on to him!!!!!!!! What should I do????????????

Herpes in the family?
Hi wantout,
I can understand why you are panicking a bit, it all seems a bit strange. I can't say if you have Oral Herpes or Genital Herpes or anything else, but you should certainly go see a gynaecologist / std clinic and also an eye doctor because something is wrong, that's for sure. I hope I don't make you more scared by this ;) My point is that you need to see specialists, not a family doctor or similar, because Herpes - of any kind - can be tricky to diagnose. Ask for blood tests or culture tests.
I can say one thing to calm you down, and that is that having eye Herpes doesn't mean that you get Genital Herpes from yourself. Also, it's unlikely that you have passed Genital Herpes - if you do have it - to your baby. Genital Herpes is an STD and that means that you can only get it via sexual activity. If you do have Eye Herpes, you might have passed it to your baby, but it is not a life threatening disease, so you needn't worry. Also, you would know because there would be symptoms.
Why don't you read our Herpes FAQ and if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to come back here.
Kind regards,
iv
