herpes zoster: should i go on leave?
it was a shock to find out that what i thought were mere blisters near my bra-line were actually symptoms of herpes zoster. i learned it just this morning when i visited the company doctor and was promptly sent home for a 10-day leave.
if hz isn't contagious, why do i have to file for a leave of absence? i also read somewhere that as long as the blisters are covered, then it won't be a problem.
to be or not to be isolated. that is my question.

Isolation during Herpes Zoster
Hi filibuster,
I don't know why some doctors and hospitals keep Herpes Zoster patients in isolation. It is not a very contagious disease bacuse it it is a reactivation of chickenpox and most grownups have had chickenpox as children or they have had the chickenpox vaccine. So unless oyu work with children, I don't see any reason to stay homw from work.
How did the doctor diagnose you? Did he do any tests? The reason I ask is that you don't mention any symptoms other than the blisters and usually the skin will be very sore and painful - and you would want to stay at home!
I think you should see your own doctor to confirm that you do have Herpes Zoster and that you should stay at home.
