lyrica for shingles pain

Hi... My symptoms started Sat Oct 8 with severe headaches on left side temple. Even with 400 advil migraine pills, did not kill the pain. Then i had flu like symptoms and a mild fevere. 2-3 days later a few lareg blisters broke out on my left side of my face near the nose and one on my left eyelid.

I saw the Doctor Tues Oct 11, 2005 and she (and Optamalogist) diagnosed me with shingles (herpes zoster Ophthalmicus). Doctor prescribed VALTREX (and TYNELOL3 to deal with pain) and at least only a few more few new blisters broke out.

The general maliase and headaches have continued. The initial 3 blister are still quite painful and present (including eyelid). When i saw her yesterday Tues Oct 18 she recommended starting on LYRICA which she feels will help deal with Postherpetic neuralgia pain.

Has anyone else started using this medication and what are their results?

Or is it too soon to start such medication and just stick to the TYNELOL3?

Thank you for your advice opinion on this matter.

Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus

Hi roben52,

Lyrica is a relatively new drug used by epilepsi and post-herpetic neuralgia patients. I don't see any reason that you should wait, go ahead and try it. Just don't expect miracles, the pain experienced during post-herpetic neuralgia can be quite difficult to manage.
