Coold sore or Herpes?
I recently drank after someone who had
herpes simplex virus and i found out
about a second after i drank after him.
I was hoping someone could tell me the
chances I have of getting this virus
from drinking after him (it was a dr.pepper
if that makes any difference) I talked
to my Dr.'s Asst. and she said it's likely
I will get it, the national helpline
said it is impossible for me to get it
by drinking after someone, but both sounded
like they knew jack so of course I turn
to the internet. As well as my chances
of contracting this I am wondering if
someone could clear the concept of this
up for me. I was told a simple cold sore or
canker sore is HSV, but I've had those
multiple times in my life *im 16ish*
does that mean I already have this...
Let jsut say the information sites on
this virus aren't to helpfull when it
comes to the difference of HSV and a
commen cold sore or canker sore. And none
of the sites said anything about drinking
after someone so yeah. Please reply soon
or I'm afraid I will put myself ina bubble
and end up soffocating myself because I
am very parinoid about this now. I know from
now on I am NOT going to drink after
anyone and no one is drinking after me.
I'm freaking out so please someone help me!

Herpes or cold sores
Hi echoescry,
Well, it is little confusing.
A cold sore is the same as Oral Herpes. Oral Herpes is caused by Herpes Simplex 1 or 2. A cold sore is not an std and you can get it from a kiss, but you can't get it from sharing a drink.
Read more in our Oral Hereps FAQ.
Kind regards,

There's a very slim chance
There's a very slim chance of getting herpes from sharing a drink if the person is having an outbreak and you drink from the same spot they drank from within 10 seconds. And you would need to really apply your lips to the glass that their lips were touching. So that said, your chances of getting it are slim to none. I'd say oh, around 2% at the highest but that's not a statistic, just my estimate.
And a cold sore usually is on the outside of your mouth. On your lip or chin area. If you get blisters on your lips once every 2 months or better diagnosed, blisters on your chin area that turn into hard raised scabs and last for a week or so as a scab, yeah, thos are cold sores, aka, the herpes virus, oral in variety.
You Can
Actually you can get it from sharing a drink because that's how I got my Oral Herpes. I've been diagnosed by a doctor as well so.. I think you'll most likely get it or you already had it and didn't know, if you've gotten the sores beforehand.
Genital herpes is spread by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex ..
Direct contact with the live virus including:
Any direct contact with an herpes infection
Kissing, touching or caressing actively infected areas
Sexual contact (vaginal, oral, or anal sex)
Cold sores or mouth herpes can be spread by sharing the same drinking glass, lipstick, cigarette, etc
