This happened to me... I have been married to my husband fro 25 years and have been with my husband for 28 years. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago and I went through the whole head thing of what to believe I test positive only for hsv 2 my husband tested positive for hsv 1&2. I blamed acussed the whole bit. After I calmed down and stopped blaming my husband that he must of had an affair I realized he had sighs early in our relashionship. He never had sores just what he thought was his pants rubbing his privites at that time he also would get cold sores in his mouth I never saw them. We were living a happy and healthy life. Never in a million years did I think one of us had this virus which eventually took over my life. I was completly shocked. so unfortunatly one of you might have been carrying the virus and never reconized it as anything, My husband even carrying the virus is not bother by it on the other hand it controls my life. My situation is very similer, except that my wife started having the outbreaks, and she tested +, however I have tested neg. twice. All this after 22+ years of being together!

I'm curious to know if you started having outbreaks 5 years ago, or just found out from a routine test.

I had my first out break 5 years ago. It was a primary out break, it lasted 4 weeks and I was quite sick. At that time my husband took a blood test and that is when we found out he was carrying the virus. At the time of my first out break a culture was taken on me but since then I have taken a blood test and I test positive for only hsv 2 my husband tests positive for hsv 1&2. I had not been with any other person for 23 years at the time and my husband swears this is true of him, so there you have it. In some ways I am angry with the lack of education of this virus the hush hush thing about it I knew nothing of it, I did not even get cold sores so to get this in my forties was quite a shock even though my husband carries the virus he really dosen't show signs, although had I know more about it he or I might of picked up on it sooner.

Have any medical intuitives agreed that herpes can lay dormant. I have just been diagnosed after 25 years of a monagamous relationship.
could it have been hiding within since I am very healthy. Recently I have have been extremely stressed about my marriage. and out perks old fungus?...

I have had herpes for almost 7 years now. But, to answer your question herpes can be dormant for 5,10,15 and so on years because I have a very close friend of mine whom got herpes 1 &2 a few years ago after being married for about 5 years and he was the first person that she ever had sex with. But, he had sex with someone before her about 5 years prior to her. So, your husband's herpes could be dormant for a long, long time. Oh, my frien is still with her husband and has had a second child. I hoped this helped somewhat.

This is new news. Now I wonder who I got it from and who I passed it to before I even knew. What makes me even madder after visiting this site. My doctor told me that I didn't have to worry about passing the virus to my husband, as long as I wasn't broken out, we didn't have to use condoms. Now my husband has had a break out. I will not ever blame anyone but myself for getting herpes, but if I had been informed that it could be passed without any visable sores I would have been more apt to use condoms in the past rather then just a visual examination. I know it sounds horrible that I wouldn't use condoms anyway, and it is. I was extremely careless. You live and you learn. The lysine has helped, along with prayer (for all you jesus freaks out there) Does anyone know why STD blood tests don't show herpes? I had been tested twice for STDs before I found out I had it.

I wish it was true that it could lay dormant for 25 years but it
just doesn't seem possible. My husband is the only one I have ever been with. Although he was with a lot of girls before we were married. He says he hasn't cheated on me but I just find it hard to believe that after being with him for almost 25 years that I would come down with it for the first time. I still can't believe it has happened. Thank you though for your imput. =)

I wonder about the blood test to. You know there is something wrong with your body, and you've been told that it has to do with traveling through your nerves and blood. So why is it so hard to get a test to give accurate results?

My wife just caught herpes from me. I have been faithful to my wife for the past eight years. She recently got the virus about a year ago. We have had sex before we got married and we also have had four children before her firts outbreak. I know that my wife and I feel that she has not cheated. I am having a hard time conviecing her that I have not cheated.
I am now 38 I did tell her (after we got diagnosed) that I may have contracted something when I was 17, but I was not sure. I did go to the doctor after noticing irritation and sores on my Penis, but he did not say it was herpes. He said it was a rash of some sort and prescribed medication. I have not had and outbreak that I can remember since, but after the actual confirmation I started researching pictures on the internet and it does appear that I had similar lessions.. I just want to know how can this lay dormant for this many years and after the children and I also ask myself the same questions Why?????
