Can Herpes live outside the body?
If someone has herpes on their mouth and touches it and then
touches an object, such as a doorknob, a file cabinet handle,
paper, a pen, or even if you go shake their hand, etc.... If you
go and touch it after they do, can you get it?
How long does it stay alive on these objects?

Can herpes live outside the body?
Most definately yes. My story in brief.
As an eighteen year old, doing as teenagers do, exploring and creating my own new boundries and way of being; I decided to dispense with wearing underwear. One unfortunate day whilst doing up my fly I caught the soft skin of my penus in the zip. Tiny wound in the soft skin that bled, I was visiting my family, so I looked around the medicine cupboard for something to put on it. Unfortunately I chose to use the vaseline that my mother used on her lips when they were dry to put on the wound. A few days later out came herpes. My mother had rare periodic bouts of herpes and had used this particular jar before me.
My conclusion is that herpes can live a long time in a jar of vaseline at room temperature, where it resists desication.
Side issue:
Interestingly the only stress that I had observed that brought her outbreaks was eating citrus.

Don't worry about it. The herpes virus is spread rarely, if at all, by objects such as a toilet seat or hot tub.
