Herpes in nose

Hi

I recently contracted my first serious dose of herpes. Not knowinghow contagious it is I accidentally transferred it to inside my nostrils. Since this happened my nose has been trying to heal but as a result is getting uncomfortably blocked by bloody scabs. When I blow my nose to clear these am I stopping the herpes sores from healing? Is there any way to cure this or do I just have to alow it to healnaturally and breathe through my nose?

Thanks
Ben

Coldsore location

Hi keeganben,

You don't normally transfer from one bodypart to another - then everyone with cold sores would be covered in scabs all over!

I'm not sure what you have in your nose. It is of course entirely possible that it is a cold sore, but it could also be very thin, sensitive skin in the nose - or something else.

Whatever it is, it doesn't sound nice. I would recommend that you see a doctor. I'm sorry that I can't give you any other advice.

Kind regards,

iv

Thanks for reply. I'm

Thanks for reply. I'm pretty sure it's cold sores as one is visible just below my nose. Unfortunately i live in korea so trying to garner advice from my Doctor is pretty difficult...I'll see him again this week though and maybe bring an interpreter!!

Cold sores in nose

Have just seen your post. I get cold sores up both nostrils with almost every attack (up to 20 times a year). They are very difficult to treat, especially if accompanied by a cold. If you're lucky you may never get another attack, but you may experience for a steep learning curve. If you do feel an attack coming you could try a course of anti-viral tablets, but it's not recommended to use anti-viral creams up your nose. The best advice I can give you is to get a good night's sleep, drink loads of water, no alcohol, and eat really well - lots of fresh fruit and veg - for at least 48 hours. Basically you need to give your immune system the best possible resources to fight the virus. After a while you will come to know what triggers your attacks and what will help them. When scabs form up your nose they take a while to heal. Resist all attempts to blow out scabs - they will fall out themselves when ready. If you don't let them heal properly, the sores will keep re-forming. Believe me, they're persistent.
Good luck. I hope you're one of the lucky ones who never has another attack.

Thanks for the advice...I have been doing well with the not blowing/picking nose method and I feel that I may be winning the war now. My doctor has advised me to sniff salt water, as this will kill the virus. I haven't tried this yet but am building up to it!!
Your good diet, no alcohol idea is a good one but it's the weekend!! I will try from tomorrow.

Thanks
Ben

Gone

Well my nose has now been clear for three weeks now and I have learned a crucial lesson...herpes is incredibly infectious so next time it appears I will never touch the sores unless applying cream, and always wash my hands before and after doing this. I'm pretty sure the sores spread because I picked my nose without knowing how infectious this disease is, so hopefully I won't get them up there again...

PS I never tried the sniffing salty water method as I thought it would hurt!!

Nasal sores

I had nasal lesions in 1994 when I was near to a nervous breakdown (therefore, extremely stressed and immuno-compromised). They lasted about 3 months, were typical of herpes blisters, resulting in an ulcer and yellow crust. They healed slowly due to moist environ and the fact that, as you say, you keep blowing them out or picking them (they drive you insane dont they?). I started to take vitamins with plenty of B and C, and a week later, discovered to my relief that they were fading.
I had one further attack a few months later on the same side of my face, but on my face beside my nose. Since then, I have never had another attack of the nasal variety.

Good luck. I hope you're lucky enough to not have repeat attacks ;-)

Dont mess around with herpes during any form of binge

i contracted HSV-1 i beleive through kissing my uncarful mother when i was around 11, almost postitive that was how it was aquired... cant state it as fact tho.

i had the recurrent lip sores.. at all kinds of severitys.. somtimes itd be just a tiny small one.. others itd be a devestating mirror image month long infection.. tho oddly, i havent had a noticable sore on my lips for almost 3 years, only as few warning sings(the tingleing)and the very side where my top and bottom lips meet but this could be due from hypocondria etc..

i did however, have a slight nasal drug abuse addiction a few years back, and def did spread it, most likly from a lip cold sore active infection to the straw to my nose... oddly tho this seemed to be a new home for the virus i already had, due to antiboties from originol infections its off it was so easy but oddly i havent got the lip sores since then. i do get um in my nose everytime i disturb my nose, heavey sneezeing, occasional relapse with a straw.. etc.. only thing im terrified about (considerin id rather have um in my nose then my lips heh. not to mention H202 works alot better in the nose in my experience) is the risk of the eye infection.. never touch your eyes if you know you have hsv-1 ... i dont care how rare etc it is, better to be safe then sorry.

i would admit that maybe i was passed the new virus through shareing straws, but it seems exactly the same type.

i am however positive its herpes in my nose tho, i have this fever thats come with the sores i started getting 11years ago, that dosent compare to other infections,sickness's..

Melaleuca Oil for herpes

I do not personally have herpes in my nose, but I have a friend who does. She has told me that using Melaleuca Oil (tee tree Oil) really knocks it down. I have another friend at church whom I used to always see with a cold sore on her mouth. I finally got the nerve to approach her and I shared with her the oil and she has had only one outbreak in a year. When she feels the tingly feeling coming on she uses the oil immediately and it keeps it from coming to a head. I have another friend with oral herpes that this does not work for at all. So it is not a guarantee, but worth a shot.

My friend with the herpes in the nose shared this with me because we were both using products from the company (Melaleuca) which is a direct sales company. YOu can get melaleuca oil from a health food store as well. I would recommend that you get the purest/best form and not a mix. look for 100% Melaleuca Alternifolia (the scientific name). I do not sell the products from Melaleuca - only use them for my personal use. But being involved wiht this company and listening to their products calls, etc. I have learned a lot about a lot of different things - this being one.

The book - "The Ultimate Melaleuca Guide" says that the virus feeds on excessive intake if the amino acid arginine - avoid citrus fruit and nuts. Dab the oil on the lesion immediatley upon detection. Repeat every hour until the lesion either disappears or comes to a head. If it comes ot a head, continue to apply every 2 hours.

If anyone decides to try this, I please let me know your results.

Any advice on this???

Hi,

I'm not sure if I have herpes or not but a few weeks ago I had this irritation on the inside of my nose (painful crack that lasted 2-days) and also had a very sore, red spot on the rim of my nostril. At first I thought it was a deep zit and of course I tried to pop it. I had no success but after about 10 days, I saw what appeared to be a single white head. My wife tried to pop it and an ingrown hair came out. I figured great, that's all it was. Then about 2 days later the red spot re-appeared and there still was a slight bump. this bump is still very sensitive, slightly red and frequently itches (I don't recall zits itching). It has not responded to any acne creams, but I have used some hydrocortizone to minimize the itching. I've tried to not touch it hoping that it will go away. The wierd thing is that when I get a zit, it typically heals within a day or so. This has been going on for more than a week.

I've been married for 15 years, but was unfaithful 3 months ago (performed oral on some sleezy girl who I no longer in contact with). My wife is unaware of this, and I suspect that our marriage would end if she found out I was unfaithful. I'm terrified that I may have contracted herpes and am not sure what to do. Do you think I should see a Dr? Should I try some over-the-counter herpes creams to see if that resolves it?

The funny thing is that I do not have any evidence of a coldsore on my lips or anywhere else....If I did catch it from performing oral I would expect the lesion to appear on my lips, not the rim of my nose????

Any advice?
Thanks,
David
