Herpes Type 1

I was recently diagnosed with herpes type 1 in the genital area, transmitted by a cold sore from my husband.

Will I continue to get outbreaks?

We are currently using condoms all of the time. Will I transmit the virus even if I do not have an outbreak?

From my understanding in

From my understanding in lots (most?) cases herpes 1 on the genitals is less severe then type 2 on the genitals. Sorry to hear though, that sucks. My husband always showered after sex and that worked for 4 years, but then he plucked a hair on his shaft with the tweezers and got a sore around the spot, we think he made it an easier opening for the virus. But we didn't use condoms, which would have been a good idea, but we didn't bother because we were married and he made the choice that he would rather face the possible concequences of herpes then use condoms. We didn't have sex when I thought I was getting a sore or had a sore. You will have some days where you could transmit the virus with no symptoms and some days where you wouldn't have any shedding at all and wouldn't pass it on, the only problem is that you never know what day is what. but if your husband really doesn't want to catch it then it is better to always use them as you are doing. You just have to do what is right for your personal situation. If I was dating someone (and not married of course)I would never not use protection, I am not an advocate for unsafe sex, unless in marriage and both have been tested for other STD's. and know the possible consequences and are accepting of them. Anyway after that incident my hubby never got another sore and that was 2 years ago.
