I have a situation and questions - did my girlfriend give me Herpes?

My girlfriend recently went in to the doc for a bladder infection. After it didn't go away from antibiodics, she went back again. Her doc was concerned it might be Herpes (after pelvic exam) so she sent her home with some drugs for flare ups after taking some blood work. The blood worK results won't come back until Tues, but she hasn't started taking the drugs and feels much better on her own. Overall, the bladder infection symptoms lasted roughly 2 wks.

While she had the "bladder infection" we had unprotected sex 3 times prior to her finding out she had the possibility of having an STD. We were very active sexually prior to the bladder infection - having sex daily.

My question is this - IF she has Herpes... have I caught it? We've been having sex for roughly 2 months now. I have never had any symptoms at all and we're not even sure if she has it, but I hear that the potential for false results is at least relatively high. How soon would it show up for me?

What can we do? Are condoms effective enough? Other than the obvious reasons to use a condom, if we choose not to, does it have any bearing on Herpes if one or both of us have it. I ask b/c I was told that a condom won't prevent me from catching it if she does have it. If we both have Herpes, is there any reason for us to change our habits?

BTW - What else might it be if not Herpes?

What to do now?

Hi northwoods,

If your girlfriend has Herpes there is a chance that you have caught it. Hard to say really, but Herpes usually transfers mostly when there are visible symptoms. I acan't say when you would have symptoms, as Herpes can lay dormant for anything from days to years.

You are right, unfortunately a condom will not protect you 100% although it will reduce the risk. As you know, sex isn't just genital contact and Herpes travels via mucus membranes which are also found in your mouth an dother "openings" on your body.

If you both have hereps, I would advice you to change habits a little as Herpes outbreaks tend to get worse and more frequent if you have unprotected sex during outbreaks. When you have outbreaks, avoid sex. And take antiviral medication during outbreaks. it all depends on the severity of the outbreaks, though.

Many couples are together for decades where only one party has Herpes and tne other never gets it while in other couples the infected one immediately transfers Herpes to the other. It' s really hard to say as Herpes dosen't always "act" the same!

You are on the right track, though, as information and education is the best thing you can do for yourself and your girlfriend.

Good luck and please report back!

Kind regards,

iv

Isoniplex (Isoprinosine)

uniformed

Has anyone tried or knows some one who has had the Isoniplex (Isoprinosine) vacsination? I hear its available in 56 countries alread. I plan to ask my doctor about its effectiveness in the morning. This is suppose to help eliminate reaccurring symptoms.
The other vacsines are for people who have not been exposed to herpes yet.
